Bibbulmun Track

The Bibbulmun Track, one of the world’s most renowned long-distance trails, stretches nearly 1,000 km from Kalamunda near Perth to the historic coastal town of Albany. As it meanders through Pemberton, this section offers a truly unique experience in WA’s Southern Forests, showcasing towering karri forests, pristine rivers, and the charm of a welcoming trail town.

Track Highlights and Facilities

Passing through Pemberton, the Bibbulmun Track provides hikers with timber shelters, picnic tables, water tanks, and tent sites at designated campsites—ideal for an overnight stop or a multi-day adventure. Long-drop toilets and wood fireplaces are also available, though carrying a fuel stove is recommended, especially during summer fire bans. For safety, walkers should note that firewood availability may vary, so checking conditions before heading out is advised.

A Walk Through Diverse Landscapes

This stretch of the Bibbulmun takes you through some of Western Australia’s most breathtaking natural environments, including misty valleys, towering karri and tingle forests, and coastal heathlands. The Pemberton area is especially rich with scenic views and biodiversity, offering hikers a chance to encounter native wildlife and spring wildflowers. The trail is marked with yellow triangle markers bearing the Waugal symbol, representing the rainbow serpent of Aboriginal Dreaming, which guides you along winding paths and serene forest trails.

Cultural Significance

The track not only offers natural beauty but also weaves through lands of deep cultural significance for the Nyoongar people. Hikers can learn about the Aboriginal heritage of these lands through resources available along the trail, like the Nyoongar Knowledge guides, which deepen the connection to this ancient landscape.
