A History of Pemberton Caravan Park: A Legacy of Community and Care
The Pemberton Caravan Park (PCP) has always been more than just a stop for travellers; it embodies Pemberton’s commitment to community, local heritage, and nature. Originally a simple camping ground, the park grew alongside Pemberton’s development, and in 1984, it was transferred to community ownership under the management of the Pemberton Visitor Centre (PVC). This arrangement ensured that funds generated by the park were reinvested into local projects, supporting vital facilities like the beloved Pemberton Swimming Pool.
For over 20 years, the park was sub-leased to a private operator, who managed it independently while paying the PVC a monthly retainer. However, in December 2020, the PCP returned to PVC management. The transition became a transformative moment for Pemberton, as volunteers from across the town rallied to restore the park’s facilities and prepare it for the busy holiday season. With the cabins removed and some revitalisation needed, a team of 60 dedicated community members worked tirelessly to ready the park for Christmas guests, showcasing the resilience and collective spirit of the Pemberton community.
Today, under the PVC’s guidance, the Pemberton Caravan Park has re-established itself as a community-owned, not-for-profit site. Managed by two full-time caretakers, the park continues to support and sustain the Pemberton Swimming Pool—a cherished gem nestled among the karri trees. The PCP’s contributions include covering the pool’s insurance and maintaining the surrounding grounds. The park recently hosted the Freezin’ for a Reason Fundraiser, rallying locals and visitors alike to brave icy waters and raise $5,000 towards a $100,000 goal for essential pool repairs and maintenance.
Beyond the pool, the PCP assists the Pemberton Cycling Association, providing funds to help maintain the Mountain Bike Park trails established around 2008-2010. The park’s direct support allows locals and visitors to explore Pemberton’s natural beauty on well-kept trails designed to enhance outdoor experiences in the region.
Through years of evolution and community resilience, the Pemberton Caravan Park has held its place as an essential part of the town. It stands today as a testament to Pemberton’s community spirit, offering a welcoming experience for visitors, including their furry friends off season, and supporting the town’s beloved amenities.
